He had a Madeleine over for the rest of the afternoon. They loved the Crashbox shows and I love On Demand Television! Topics: The heart, Math, Vocabulary words and other stuff. LOL

OCTOBER 24TH 2007

FIELD TRIP!!

GLASS MAKER

We visited a GLASS BLOWING work shop.

They showed us how to make glass objects by heating the glass/sand etc.

They made some things before our eyes.

The video is of a horse being made but I couldn't zoom so it can't be seen very well.

There were beautiful glass objects that were created in the shop just sitting around to be knocked over. It was quite nerve racking for mom's with littles.

This is the freight elevator that we used to get to the glass shop.

Brise and Vinze were loving it. Vinnie got to go with us because he was lucky

enough to have an allergic reaction to whatever today and be sent home from school

for fear that he was contagious! Whoo hoo...

Here is a picture of the boys (to the left) watching as the man gives the kids a lesson about glass making. Please pretend you do not see the other kids as we are homeschoolers and opposed to socialization..cough, cough

As we were waiting to get on the Freight Elevator to leave we were surprised to see that the "people" getting off the elevator was actually a man on a motorcycle!

That concludes our morning...off to Pizza Hut to redeem Brisan's Book-It coupon for a free pizza!

BRISE: "Hey Mom."

ME: "What?"

BRISE: "What is Quantum Physics?"

ME: 'vacant look....eyes darting around for answers...stumbling to the computer...keypad blazing...'

"ummm....It's the physics of the incredibly small. It describes how electrons surround the nucleus of an atom and other subatomic actions. It gets into gluon plasma and things called quarks...nanotechnology....ummmm....it's all about teeny tiny things and how they work and look. It flows naturally into the ideas of time travel and The Big Bang, The Big Crunch and such also."

BRISE: "Can we learn about that?"

ME: "Sure" (excitedly and freaked out at the same time)

TEACHER NOTE: Remember to read a paragraph from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to Brise. As I read it he should write the words in cursive on paper. This helps with spelling, sentence structure, listening skills and penmanship.

~Read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He will read this book and then watch the movie and describe the differences in a written paper.
~Began edHelper.com Multiplication worksheet. Wrote problems on separate sheet of paper in order to have room to put the numbers in the correct spot.
~ Cursive Handwiting pages 27 - 28
~Language pp. 24 - 25 Vocabulary definition match and pronunciation.

Vinze

~ Completed page 8 and part of 9 in Math 110. Adding 2 digit numbers and 3 vertical 2 digit numbers. Counting money.

Daxx and Kole

~Were shown a coloring page with the letter Aa on it and an Ant.
They were asked to color their just like the page shown.

~Read a story in Language entitled "Jesus Our Example" He began completing questions about the story.

~Began Self Test 2 in his Math 501 lifepac book.

~Completed pages 7 - 9 in History 501 lifepac. He's learning about conquistadors, Ponce de Leon etc..

~Completed pages 25 - 26 in his Cursive Handwriting book.

Vinze

~Completed pages 1-3 in his Language book. (vowels, capital and lowercase recognition)

~Completed pages 1-5 in his Math 110 lifepac book. Counting to 100, Rounding Numbers, Telling Time.

~Completed pages 12 - 17 in his History 201 lifepac book.
~Watched the Discovery Channel Shark documentary.

~Completed pages 25 - 26 in his Cursive Handwriting book.

Daxx and Kole

~Looked at a book about planets, looked at a picture of the earht and drew it.
~Watched Sesame Street, Dora and Diego.

Today we began another year of homeschooling.

Brisan is in 5th grade, Vinze is in 2nd grade,
Daxx and Kole are in preschool,

Vinze has asked to go to public school this year to see what it's all about. We decided to let him have that experience. He went for 1/2 the year and then came home. Kazz and Brise went for a year so he is excited to do what they got to do too. The only thing I don't like about it is that I have to get up early!! LOL
